The fire drills are nothing but same as you have learnt in the school days. There are some guidelines to apply for the grown up which is followed in the business places. In every new place make a note of the fire exits and the map marking " you are here". Some big buildings might be confusing for some days. But we should familiarize the layout which help you during emergency evacuation. The building also should be equipped with enough fire exits for emergency evacuation.
Fire Alarm: The fire alarm system may vary with respect to the place. At some places the alarm may be loud and continuous. But in places where people mostly in phone will be silent and the fire will be indicated by flashing lights. Everyone should be aware of the alarm signals. On the part of building administration department, the employees and occupants should be taught regarding the fire alarm and other fire protection methods to prevent themselves and to save the victims in fire. Fire drills are rare, but should be practiced commonly.
The jurisdictions in many countries require the fire drills which are conducted at certain intervals. This is most compulsory in the elementary, middle and high schools. As per the law, every workplace must contain an emergency plan consisting of staff actions and evacuation plans and how to contact the fire brigade.
In U.S jurisdiction the law regarding the fire drill may vary according to the state federal laws. But in U.K, the department of children, schools and families requires the schools should perform the drill atleast once in an academic year and also give advice for occuring each terms.
During fire drills in companies, the staffs escape themselves to the bathroom to have a smoke or to the break room to load up some snacks.
